The high walls of Wilpena Pound combined with the tall gum trees leaves much of the area in shade even during the brightest part of the day.
The last day of the ride took us across Wilpena Pound and then over the steep walls of the far side. Much of the trail was rough and narrow; this was one of the rare spots wide enough for me to move clear of other riders.
Probably one of the most photographed spots along the entire Mawson Trail, and the panorama Bike South Australia uses to advertise the Outback Odyssey. The climb up to this point was the toughest climb of the entire ride; even the amazing Lindsey Colla, the first unicyclist to complete the entire Mawson Trail, had to walk the last section. He could out climb everyone up to that point.
