The interior of Wilpena Pound was a short ride from Rawnsley Park. Throughout the area are many reminders of the traditional owners of the area, the Adnyamathanha aboriginals. This sculpture is part of a historic site highlighting early European attempts to settle the area.
The high walls of Wilpena Pound combined with the tall gum trees leaves much of the area in shade even during the brightest part of the day.
The last day of the ride took us across Wilpena Pound and then over the steep walls of the far side. Much of the trail was rough and narrow; this was one of the rare spots wide enough for me to move clear of other riders.
